Application:
The ZAA 2300 is an automatic laboratory instrument for the defined, operator-independent and reproducible application of coatings, paints, varnishes, adhesives and similar products. It is suitable for laboratories, quality assurance and research and development and can be combined with different film applicators.

2300, 2300.F and 2300.FF (The F and FF variants are available for higher drawdown speeds and special process requirements.)
Reproducible film drawdowns
Manual film drawdowns can produce irregular test films due to varying contact pressure and inconsistent drawdown speeds. In contrast, the ZAA 2300 moves the selected applicator over a defined distance at a controlled speed.

Suitable applicators for the ZAA 2300
The film applicator provides the uniform movement. The selected applicator determines factors such as gap height, film width and type of film application.
The ZAA 2300 can be used with the following applicators, among others:
- 43020100–43020105 / ZUA 2000: universal applicators with adjustable gap height and film widths from 60 to 220 mm
- 43020300, 43020301, 43020303 and 43020304 / ZAF 2010: four-sided film applicators with four defined gap heights
- 43010997–43011030 / ACC378: profile rods for defined film drawdowns
- ACC586: wire-wound film applicator rods for uniform films with different wet-film thicknesses
Design and operation
- Height-adjustable guide: facilitates insertion and replacement of applicators
- Weight support: guides profile rods and wire-wound film applicator rods securely over the specimen
- Rod and applicator guide: for controlled positioning of suitable applicators
- Clamping device: for fast fixation and release of the substrate

Base plates and substrate fixation
The ZAA 2300 can be equipped with different base plates. This allows the instrument to be adapted to rigid, flexible, thin or temperature-sensitive substrates.
Glass and rubber-coated fabric plate
- 43000143: reversible double-sided glass and rubber-coated fabric plate
- One side with a rigid glass surface
- One side with rubber-coated cotton fabric
- The fabric side is particularly suitable for profile rods and wire-wound film applicator rods
Vacuum plate
- 43010923 / ACC121: precision vacuum plate with 1.0 mm holes, non-heated
- 43010966 / ACC211: precision vacuum plate with 0.5 mm holes, non-heated
- Holds thin and flexible substrates flat against the working surface
- Also available as a heated version
Heated application
For temperature-controlled film drawdowns, the ZAA 2300 can be equipped with a heating plate or a heated vacuum plate. The plates can be operated at temperatures of up to 150 °C.
The 43010962 / ACC1576 conversion kit protects both the operator and the precision mechanics of the instrument from the generated heat.

Operation
- Select a suitable applicator for the required film width and gap height.
- Select the appropriate working surface: glass, rubber-coated fabric, vacuum plate or heating plate.
- Position the substrate and secure it using the clamping device or vacuum.
- Insert the profile rod or wire-wound film applicator rod into the guide and apply the weight.
- Position other applicators at the designated weight support.
- Set the start and end positions and the required application length.
- Select the drawdown speed.
- Apply the coating material in front of the applicator in the drawdown direction.
- Start the application process.
- After completion, remove and clean the applicator and substrate.
