Zehntner ACC378 profile rods are used for the controlled application of paints, varnishes, coatings, adhesives and similar products with a defined wet-film thickness. They are suitable for laboratories, quality assurance and research and development and can be used manually or in combination with an automatic film applicator.
Defined film drawdowns with a precise gap height
The profile geometry of the ACC378 rods produces a uniform film drawdown across the working width. The fixed gap height allows reproducible test films to be prepared for comparative measurements, material development and quality testing.

Note on the resulting film thickness
The specified rod size describes the defined gap height or nominal film drawdown. The actual wet- and dry-film thickness may be influenced by factors including viscosity, solids content, surface tension, drawdown speed and substrate.
Manual and automatic film application
The ACC378 profile rods can be drawn manually over the substrate or combined with an automatic film applicator. Automatic use reduces operator-dependent variations in drawdown speed and movement.

- Target wet-film thickness: determine the required nominal rod size
- Material: consider viscosity, flow behavior and solids content

- Working surface: select a glass, rubber-coated fabric or vacuum plate
- Application: determine whether the drawdown will be manual or automatic
- Drawdown speed: keep the speed constant during comparative test series
